How Do I Get Started

Getting Started with the Choice Scholarship

Five clear steps from checking eligibility to your child's first day at the best choice school for them.

  1. 1

    Check your eligibility

Starting with the 2026-27 school year, eligibility is universal for Indiana K-12 students, with no income cap. Confirm school participation and current requirements with the Indiana Department of Education. Gather proof of Indiana residency so you're ready.

  2. 2

Research and visit the best choice schools

List what matters most for your child, then explore participating schools, including online options. Tour, ask questions, and compare total costs.

  3. 3

    Apply to the school

Complete the school's admissions process. Your child must be accepted by a participating school before the scholarship can be awarded.

  4. 4

Complete the scholarship application through the school

Apply to and be accepted by a participating school first. The school typically submits your Choice Scholarship application to the Indiana Department of Education on your behalf. Watch for requests for documents and respond quickly.

  5. 5

    What happens next

The scholarship is paid directly to the participating school on your child's behalf, not to the family. Review any remaining costs, and remember to renew each year.
